Compliance risks

When do you need TradeRisk?

Compliance questions often arise in the middle of a commercial transaction — for example when doubts emerge about a customer, product, destination or end user.

  • You want to know who you are doing business with.
  • You are unsure whether a customer, UBO or business partner needs additional screening.
  • You want to know whether a product may fall under export control or dual-use regulations.
  • You trade with countries or regions where sanctions risks may apply.
  • You supply, directly or indirectly, to defence-related end users.
  • Your organisation has no in-house compliance specialist, but does face recurring compliance questions.
  • You want insight into the main compliance risks within your organisation.

TradeRisk helps structure these questions and carry out an appropriate, risk-based assessment.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about trade compliance

When is Customer Due Diligence required?

Customer Due Diligence may be required when you enter into a new business relationship, when a transaction carries an elevated risk, or when additional information about the customer, UBO or corporate structure is needed.

What is the difference between sanctions screening and due diligence?

Sanctions screening primarily focuses on checking individuals and organisations against relevant sanctions lists. Due diligence is broader and can also cover corporate structures, UBOs, reputation, adverse media and other risk factors.

What are dual-use goods?

Dual-use goods are products, software or technologies that can have both civilian and military applications. Export restrictions or licensing requirements may apply to certain goods.

When should an end user be investigated?

Investigating the end user can be important when goods are supplied internationally, especially where sensitive technology, dual-use goods, defence-related applications or elevated geographical risks are involved.

Can TradeRisk be engaged temporarily as an external compliance specialist?

Yes. Depending on the question, TradeRisk can be deployed flexibly for one-off assessments, temporary support or ongoing compliance support.

Compliance question?

In doubt about a customer, transaction or export?

A compliance question does not have to wait until it becomes a full-blown problem. Discuss your situation and find out which next steps are appropriate.
